Android 2.2 APK Installer Issue

After spending about 8 hours yesterday on trying to resolve an eccentric behavior, I finally ended up realizing that its the property/issue/bug of the APK installer of Android 2.2 in my device and after performing the same test on about 5 different apps, I concluded that this was definitely not the issue with my app, but with either the device(HTC Desire) or droid 2.2. Still have to test it on other devices(as soon as I get my hands on one).

Cramit v1.2

First of all I decided to set the title related to this project in terms of a rough version number I am maintaining, and second, now the app is pretty much close to completion with only one feature remaining now to be added, which is going to consume a lot of my time and surely be a hell lot of help for people actually wanting to use the app for the intended purpose.

Word list DB – Complete

Another day of the weekend well spent…after a very long time. So finally I managed to find the word roots and insert them into my already existing database which till now had all the words of GRE/GMAT wordlist. You can go through the schema of the database in my previous post HERE. There is a slight modification though in the previous one. The table ‘root_list’ now contains one more column with the name ‘word_root_examples’ which holds some of the examples for the respective word root.

Changes and Additions

After noting down the changes and a few changes I wanted to make for past one week, I finally got the time to include those in this version. Still haven’t changed the icon because the designer is quite busy for some time. Anyways, following are the changes I have made. – The words in the “Alphabetical” mode for which wrong options are selected now get added to the marked word list and can be seen by going to the “Marked Words” option.

More Additions

Have added some more important features and did minor bug fixes. When going through the Alphabetical mode, the user can now select whether the mode required is random or In order as shown in the snapshot below. The reset option re-initializes the counter and the words are shown from the beginning of the current list. The current mode in which the words are shown for the selected alphabet can be found out by the Title of the problem.

WordCram -> CramIt

So, after a little research, I found out that WordCram was already being used by another already existing application which works on words. It was frustrating to now having to change the name of my application because of that even though anything of that name does not exist on Android market. So after a little thought and discussions with people, CramIt was what we could come up with. Even something of that sort exists but it doesnt deal with cramming words and I guess I can live with it for the time being.

Must Have Android Apps…

I suppose I have used my droid enough to be qualified to post about what I think are the best apps that I have come across and why. Prey – First things first. You can’t have any apps on your phone if your phone is not with you anymore…right?. This application for mobile devices, your laptop included, helps you to track down your phone and monitor the activities happening from it, even give you the information about a new sim card which is inserted in it and the ability to remotely shut down your phone or give any message you want to the user of the phone.

Few more additions…

Well, as much I had promised to myself that I will not get into meddling around with the app and finally get to actual learning those, there was this one more feature I desperately wanted it to be an almost completed app which will have all the basic functions. That was to mark/unmark the words that one feels are difficult to learn while skimming through the wordlist. Now as you can see, when you are using ‘All Words’ option, you can long click any word that you find difficult to get right now, and would want to revise later, or if you just want to have a list of all the words which you find difficult.
